25 Tattoos Inspired by The World’s Most Famous Works of Art

25 Tattoos Inspired by The World’s Most Famous Works of Art

If there’s one good thing about having a tattoo done in the likeness of a famous work of art, it’s that no one can ever make fun of it. It’s not your own design, or even your tattooist’s, but that of a world-renowned artist that scholars celebrate on a daily basis.

When you hear the phrase “famous works of art,” there are surprisingly few paintings and sculptures that immediately come to mind (art historians aside). Van Gogh’s The Starry Night, Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam, and Klimt’s golden portraits are among the handful of artworks that get the majority of attention when it comes to ink time. As for tattoos inspired by well known works of art, there really isn’t as diverse of a selection as you would assume. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t out there.

We’ve searched high and low to put together a list of the best art-inspired tattoo designs for your viewing pleasure. Don’t forget to save and share your favorites!

30 Lovely Venetian Mask Tattoos to Celebrate Carnival

30 Lovely Venetian Mask Tattoos to Celebrate Carnival

From the Carnival of Binche to the bead bonanza known as Mardi Gras, Carnival is celebrated by countless cultures around the world.

Taking place between February and early March, Carnival is a sort of “final hooray” before the coming of Lent. Public celebrations, parades, and mischievous games, are just a few of the much-anticipated events that make up this age old tradition. For outsiders looking in, Carnival is mainly remembered for it’s elaborate costumes, a long-standing holiday tradition that dates back to medieval Europe. Among the most memorable festival attire, is the venetian mask— an object as creepy as it is cool. The various types of masks can be ornamental and mysterious, or down right terrifying. In the spirt of Carnival, we’ve put together a collection of tattoos imagined by folks who, well, let’s just say are looking forward to Carnival more than you are. Below are 30, creative examples of venetian mask tattoos put together especially for you. Enjoy!
